Barney Creek Vineyard Cottages
Say Hello To Complete Bliss in the Border Ranges
Marty and Sandy would like to invite you to their pocket of paradise in the Border Ranges.
As you drive through the dairy and cattle farms near Rathdowney, you’ll notice the scenery begins to change dramatically. Soon you are dwarfed by the towering heights of the Scenic Rim. Mountains Lindesay, Ernest, Barney, Ballow, May and Maroon make for an enthralling drive into this World Heritage-listed region. Tucked away in the middle of this picture you will find Barney Creek Vineyard Cottages.
Our cottages have been seamlessly blended into the natural environment, which includes two creek frontages, the lake, our vineyard and a rambling country garden with great vistas to the mountains.
Life is seasonal here. Autumn brings warm days and cool evenings with just a touch of chill at night. The grapevines and deciduous trees become a riot of colour. The creeks run crystal clear and the birds busy themselves for the winter. This is the perfect time for picnics, boules in the vineyard and long creek-side walks.
The onset of winter brings a good reason to sleep in. Watch the mists rise off the lake and creeks, herald the new vintage, taste the wines with a cheese or antipasto platter or simply enjoy a good read in a comfy chair. Later, there’ll be time to light the fire and tuck into a beef shiraz casserole with a bottle of aged shiraz. Top the day off with good coffee, port and chocolates by the wood-fired heater.
Spring is a time of renewal. The vineyard, planted with shiraz, petit verdot, grenache and mourvèdre bursts into life. Spring rains wash away the winter chills and the garden is full of tasty vegetables and strawberries.
Summer thunderstorms can turn our bubbling creeks into torrents and produce amazing sunsets. Try a wine-tasting lunch by the pool, catch a fish in the creek or cool off in either! When the sun goes down enjoy our cool summer nights. Take a moment to look up – the stars burn brighter here away from the city lights.
No matter when you choose to stay with us, you’ll always find Mother Nature at her idyllic best here. And however you wish to spend your stay, if we haven’t already thought of it we will try to make it happen.
Stayed here for only one night, but loved every minute of it. The owners were very friendly, it was very relaxing, enjoyed an outdoor fire and wine made from the vineyard. Highly recommend a stay here.Kate M.
We had a wonderful time, cosy little cottage, great view, and the food and wine was delicious.Shannon & James
